We left the walls of the old city, and came into the port first, and then into the modern city. A parade was forming, consisting mostly of students in uniform marching in loose formation, arms swinging, behind a flag bearer with the Greek flag. I wondered if this was a parade to recognize honor students (if so, then why were they forced to march in the sun in high heels?) or to chastise delinquents (then why the applause?) but when they were followed by military groups, and fighter jets flew overhead in formation, I decided it might be a memorial day parade.

Like all good parades, junk food was copiously available at this one. We had delicious and healthy street food for lunch, and soft-serve and doughnuts with melted Nutella for dessert, which we couldn't finish because it was just too sweet.
