Friday morning I baked bread and we packed a picnic. After a small hiccup involving the oven not turning off (cutting off the power supply at the breaker turned out to be the only option), we headed out.
It was cool and windy today, and we drove up into the mountains. Rhodes has peaks as high as 1,200 meters (4,000 feet) running down the center of the island, and they turn out to separate the drier eastern side, where we live, from the wetter western side, which faces several other islands.
The land to the north of Rhodes (the island in the lower right) is Turkey.
